Providing
real hope against prostate cancer.
Prostate
cancer is particularly treatable with radiation, and
we’ve treated a huge number of prostate-cancer
patients. We’ve done more prostate seed implants
than anyone else in the area, and our prostate-treatment
success rivals that of any major cancer center in the
country. Plus, IMRT can reduce normal-tissue complications
from 10% (with traditional radiotherapy) to as low as
2%.
Gynecologic cancers: a radical change for
the better.
For cancers of the uterus or cervix, our CT-guided
HDR brachytherapy reduces treatment time, complications,
patient discomfort and recovery. Simply put, radiotherapy
for these cancers is now radically different. We avoid
the Foley catheter, the rectal tube, major anesthesia
(and anesthesiologist) and packing in the vagina. HDR
brachytherapy also reduces the risk of clots, urinary
infections and pneumonia. Also, treatment is much faster
(one hour instead of six), less damaging to surrounding
tissues and far more comfortable.
Lowering the risk of treating breast cancer.
Treating
breast tumors with IMRT can avoid over- or under-treatment
in high-risk areas. It considerably decreases risk of
injury to the lungs, heart and other organs, and it
avoids swelling and noticeable scar tissue for a much
better cosmetic result. In addition, as the only freestanding
facility in the region offering MammoSite® brachytherapy,
we provide post-lumpectomy radiation treatment in five
days instead of seven weeks, which makes saving the
breast a more viable option.
Head & neck cancers demand unmatched
precision.
For head and neck cancers, our unique capabilities
provided by IMRT mean minimal radiation exposure to
the spinal cord, optic nerves and salivary glands. In
fact, permanent dry mouth is a normal side effect of
conventional radiotherapy, but is markedly decreased
with IMRT. And IMRT has been shown to cure more patients
with certain head/neck cancers. |
